Frette is founded by Jean Baptiste Edmond Frette, Alexandre Payre and Charles Chaboud on December 18, 1860.

Edmond Frette establishes a branch of the company in Monza, Italy - the heart of Brianza textile district - and begins building strong relationships with the most skilled artisans.

1878

On April 23, 1878, Frette opens its first retail shop on Via Manzoni 11, Milan, where it still operates today..
Frette is the first bed linen company to adopt and perfect the jacquard loom to weave its most exclusive collections. To this day, jacquard looms are hand strung, requiring upwards of a week to place and secure each individual yarn in its appropriate place.

1881

The Italian Royal Family selects Frette as the Official Purveyor of its linens, with each piece to be woven with the house’ regal crest. In the same year, Frette wins the gold medal at the National Exhibition in Milan with elaborate jacquard "La Vega".

1886

The first Frette catalogue is printed, expanding the brand’s reach beyond Italy.

1894

Frette creates the Tablecloth of the “Holy Virgin” for the altar of St. Peter’s Basilica in Rome.

1899

The Royal Danieli Hotel in Venice commissions Frette to provide its bed linens. Other luxury hotels followed, including the Hotel Belle Venise, The Ritz-Carlton, Paris, The Savoy in London, The Plaza in New York, and The Peninsula in Hong Kong.

1903

Frette perfects and patents the unique method of finishing linens to achieve the signature soft and shiny look and feel of Frette linens.

1999

Masterfully crafted from the finest silk, cashmere, cotton and leather, Frette to Wear, the brand’s playful take on loungewear ready-to-wear, is introduced to the products offering. Frette to Wear remains a mainstay of Frette’s offering to this day.

2017

The signature Chains motif is masterfully reengineered. From dimensional embroidery detailing across bed and bath linens to intricately-woven jacquard accessories, Chains continues to assert itself as a Frette icon to this day.
